JAM

JAM (Jesus and Me – Durbanville High School's UCSA) is the biggest organisation at the school. You don't have to be fast, strong, pretty, clever or well-spoken to join JAM, the organisation is open to all! If you knock, we will open. If you seek, you will find. We believe that JAM will enrich your life.

JAM's focus is on Jesus and to help young people to connect with God. We have group session (kringe) every Monday during which we talk about Jesus, help each other to live every moment of every day focused on Him and testify to what He has done for us.

We also have prayer session on the rugby field every Wednesday and we ask that God will bless and protect us and that His kingdom will come … and God hears us! We also hold a social event (koffiekroeg) about twice a term when we all praise God together with lively music and share His love with coffee and treats. Furthermore, we also go on a camp during which we try some unusual and fun activities in order to get to know other JAMmers better and connect with Jesus.

We believe that Jesus has invited us to reach out to the world with Him as He changes it. We hold an annual JAM week during which we collect funds for charity so God's work can be done. We have previously fasted for 40 hours for Aids orphans and we have also stayed awake throughout a night for Huis Andries Olivier.

The group leaders (kringleiers) are the ones who make sure that all these activities take place. A group of 28 learners from Grades 10, 11 and 12 were chosen as this year's leaders. There is a strict selection process, in the form of a survivor camp, during the third term for all of those who are interested in becoming a group leader. Six managers are also chosen at the time and they lead the group as far as planning and presentation of activities are concerned. Group leaders meet every week in order to support each other, pray for each other and get material from teachers who act as JAM staff, pastors and youth leaders from nearby churches.

AM is definitely the place to be if you want to get to know God better and make a difference in our broken world.
